Sauerkraut (Pickled Cabbage) Casserole

Serving Size, Ingredients and Equipment:

Equipment: frying pan, casserole dish, pot

Serves: 4

Ingredients:

- 500 g dried pasta (for example: fussili, penne, cavatappi)

- 1 tablespoon butter

- 1 white onion, diced

- 500 g sauerkraut / pickled cabbage

- 200 g cream

- 150 g grated cheese (for example: swiss, gouda)

- salt, pepper & paprika

Cooking Instructions and Methods:

Cook the dried pasta according to instructions and set aside.

In a frying pan, add the butter and saute the diced onion at medium heat for 3 minutes.

Add the sauerkraut to the pan and saute the mixture for 5 minutes while stirring ocassionally. The goal here is to reduce the bitterness of the sauerkraut.

Now add the onion / sauerkraut and the pasta to a casserole dish and mix.

Pour the cream over the mixture, spread the grated cheese on top and sprinkle with paprika.

Bake in the oven at 390 °F / 200 ° C for about 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and slightly browned.
